Physics Professor at the Model Junior High School of Heraklion, Prof. Panagiotis Toumpaniaris is also a member of the Scientific Supervisory Board of the Model Junior High School of Heraklion. Since 2015, he is the secretary of the Association of Physicists of Crete. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and a Master’s Degree in Meteorology. Since 1996, he teaches science in Secondary Education and conducts environmental projects with his students.

Dr Agueda Gras-Velazquez is the Science Programme Manager of European Schoolnet (EUN). As Head of the Science Education Department at EUN, she oversees the coordination of all STEM projects in which EUN is involved. Additionally, she is in charge of the day-to-day management of “Scientix” (the community for science education in Europe, http://scientix.eu) and coordinates EUN’s Ministries of Education STEM representatives Working Group. In her 12 years at EUN, Agueda has been involved in more than 40 EC funded projects and 17 private funded ones. She has co-authored several papers in Science Education Research and has a PhD in Astrophysics from Trinity College Dublin, carried out at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies in Ireland.

Dimitris Stavrou is Professor of Science Education at the Department of Primary Education, University of Crete, Greece. He is the Director of the Science Teaching Laboratory in this Department. He has been the principal investigator from the University of Crete of the FP7 Framework EU-Project “IRRESISTIBLE” (2013–2016) and the ERASMUS+ project “IDENTITIES” (2019–2022). He was also the President of the Hellenic Association for Science Education and Information Communication Technologies (ENEPHET) (2015–2017). His research interests include the educational reconstruction of modern science topics (quantum mechanics, non-linear systems), in-service teachers training in teaching nanoscience and nanotechnology issues in school and out of school contexts as well as pre- and in-service teachers training in STEM teaching.

Dr Iasmi Stathi is a Laboratory Teaching Staff at the Natural History Museum of Crete in the School of Sciences and Engineering of the University of Crete (NHMC-UOC). She holds a PhD in Ecology and Phylogeography. She has 21 years of experience in Educational Programs, Training for Life Long Learning Education and Education Research and Development. Since 2006, she has been a member of the NHMC Education team, participating in the development of learning activities that connect formal, non-formal and informal education (educational pathways and workshops for schools, educational packages on environmental education, summer schools and training seminars). She is a member of the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications & Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP), as a trainer for adults. Since 2012, she has been a staff member of the NHMC-Centre of Environmental Education and recently Head of NHMC Education LAB. She has participated in 20 European/National funded projects on Educational research and 20 International/European Conferences. She has 26 scientific publications in refereed journals, 6 publications in Greek, 3 participations in book translations from English to Greek and 9 booklets with practical/lab exercises for University students.

Marcel Costa Vila, graduate in Biology at the University of Barcelona. Professor of secondary education with 32 years of teaching experience. For 20 years Pedagogical Coordinator of the INS Castellar. Involved in the theoretical training and mentoring of initial training practices for secondary school teachers (10 years in the Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude at the Institutes of Education Sciences of the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and currently and since its inception, in the master’s degree in science teacher training at Pompeu Fabra University). He has also taught various courses, seminars and lectures on teacher training. Author and co-author of several textbooks and some books and articles of divulgation and research of different scientific and educational subjects.

Marta García-Matos is a physicist at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, PhD in Mathematics (Helsingin Yliopisto), and writer. More thant 12 years working in education and science dissemination, first at ICFO-Institute of Photonic Sciences, where I coordinated the Citizen Science project The BIG Bell Test, with more than 100,000 people participating worldwide in a single day. Since 2018 at CosmoCaixa-Barcelona Museum of Science and EduCaixa, in projects than blend sciences with art and humanities. Since 2019, coordinating with the Living Lab for Health the STEAMxChange project, about RRI, participatory science, and open schooling in the context of health. Author, together with Lluis Torner of The Wonders of Light (Cambridge University Press, 2015).

Miriam Struchiner is a professor of Educational Technology at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), coordinator of the Laboratory of Cognitive Technology at the Institute NUTES for Health and Science Education (NUTES/UFRJ), research fellow and leader of the research group “Research and Development of Constructivist Learning Environments using Information Technologies Information and Communication in Science and Health Education” of the National Council of Research (CNPq/Ministry of Science and Technology, Brazil). Former Coordinator of the NUTES/UFRJ Graduate Program between 1998-2002 and as Director of NUTES / UFRJ in the following periods: 2002-2010 and 2013-2015. Interests and studies: Research and development in the field of Educational Technology, with emphasis on Digital Learning Environments and on the use of Social Networks in Science and Health Education, mainly in the following subjects: distance education, Internet and Education, collaborative learning, social constructivism, socioscientific issues, multiliteracies and social semiotics, Science and health education in elementary school, and education and training of Science and Health teachers. Background: Bachelor in Industrial Design and Visual Communications from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1977), Master (1986) and Doctor (1992) in Education – Boston University, USA.

Nadja Gmelch is currently working at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in the Department of Globalisation and Cooperation as Director of Open Knowledge. Among her tasks is the promotion of Open Science and Open Knowledge at the UOC. She has co-developed an online training course on Responsible Research and Innovation for researchers and participated in different European projects related to RRI and community engagement. She has fifteen years working experience in different fields of higher education and research management. Nadja studied Language, Business and Cultural Studies at the University of Passau in Germany and is Master in European Development Cooperation Policies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Dr Yolanda (Panayota) Koulouri, Senior Researcher at Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (Crete, Greece). Her research focuses on marine biodiversity, Integrated Coastal Zone Management, marine technology of artificial reefs, Environmental Impact Assessments, Ocean Literacy. Published 35 peer-reviewed articles and other educational editions and 59 communications in conferences. Guest Editor in Mediterranean Marine Science, Journal of Marine Science and Engineering and Sustainability. Reviewer for 13 international journals. Actively participated in more than 40 European and national projects. Member of the Mediterranean Working Group of the European Marine Science Educators Association (EMSEA) and the Expert Working Group on Ocean Literacy of EuroGOOS. Representative of HCMR for EU4Ocean Coalition and Platform (Working Groups of Climate & Ocean, Healthy & Clean Ocean, Food from the Ocean). Broad experience on development of programmes, projects, activities, tools as well as scientific articles and communications concerning Ocean Literacy Framework.
